Consequences
What will happen without oil?
Our entire life depends on available energy. Given the alternative scenarios, fluctuations in energy costs are the least of our worries. Just try and imagine what would happen if oil supplies were to be suspended tomorrow:
› No heating oil – flats and workplaces stay cold.
› Numerous electric heaters are switched on – the grid collapses .
› Aeroplanes are grounded due to a lack of fuel – holidays and business trips are no longer possible.
› Petrol stations are closed – cars come to a standstill. Public transport is unable to cope with the stampede.
› Production in trade and industry nosedives – countless bankruptcies and unemployment are the consequence.
› Stock markets collapse – savings in pension funds are destroyed.
› No fuel for tractors – agricultural production becomes more difficult.
› The transport network carries no more goods – shelves remain empty.
› Massive losses of revenues from taxes and customs duties – public services have to be slashed.
